This is the record of a day when someone who had worn glasses for more than twenty years had SMILE.
We start with a detailed examination. We look at corneal thickness, prescription, tear film and corneal shape to decide whether the eye can have SMILE at all. If the exam says no, we change course to LASEK or an implantable lens. That is why, before the exam, I cannot tell anyone which procedure they will end up having.
SMILE is performed with the ZEISS VisuMax. Instead of lifting a corneal flap, a small incision is used to remove tissue shaped inside the cornea. It corrects myopia and astigmatism together.
The surgery itself is short for both eyes. Recovery speed, glare and dryness, however, differ from person to person. Afterwards, the most important things are taking the eye drops on schedule and not rubbing your eyes.
